Listen: the RedHawk Labrador Retriever program
Built for the North Atlantic, from the first day
RedHawk is a Newfoundland and Labrador training brand built on North Atlantic weather and terrain: Where the Weather Is the Teacher. Pups will grow up with shoreline, sea air and real weather, and will be raised for that weather rather than hidden from it. The Canadian Kennel Club describes the Labrador as descended from dogs brought to Newfoundland by early settlers and fishermen. This program is built to bring the breed home to the North Atlantic, and to prepare each dog for the life its owner leads: on the water, in the air and in the field.
Every RedHawk program is designed, developed and delivered by RedHawk itself. RedHawk will train every dog in-house, start to finish. No partner schools.
Key facts (planned)
A lean start
Phase 1 starts with two breeding females in 2027. Later phases add two more females and two studs as growth triggers are met, for four females and two studs in total.
Sized for care, not volume
One litter per female each year, generally 6–8 pups. Breeding dogs must pass full health clearances before any litter, which is why the first litters are planned, not promised.
Planned training pathways
- Shoreline Retriever: field-trained, about 6–8 months
- Field-trained retriever: 12–14 months
- Medical alert trained: 20–24 months
Each dog follows the path that suits it best, assessed by RedHawk dog by dog.
Working retrievers, never pets
Every RedHawk Labrador is sold as a working retriever. Dogs that do not continue to the longer pathways are sold at about 6–8 months as field-trained Shoreline Retrievers, never as pets.
Trained for the way you travel
Dogs on the working pathways will be trained to board small boats, pleasure craft, private yachts, helicopters, private jets and float planes, calmly and on cue, step by step from shore to aircraft, where operators permit.
Provincial recognition only
Where recognition exists, a province grants it to the dog and its handler as a team. Until then, no RedHawk dog holds or claims any government or third-party status. The RedHawk Standard is RedHawk’s own internal standard, not a government or third-party certification.

“RedHawk was built in Newfoundland and Labrador, and this program brings the Labrador home to Gooseberry Island, where every dog will be raised with care and trained in-house by RedHawk, on the sea, in the air and in the field. The RedHawk Standard is something each dog will earn, never something we simply claim.”
