Cory Burry is the founder, President and CEO of RedHawk Newfoundland Survival Ltd., and he will serve as President & CEO of RedHawk Survival Training Institute once it is incorporated. He sets the direction and the standard for RedHawk: every RedHawk course is designed, developed and delivered in-house, in RedHawk’s signature style.
He is a certified and licensed guide, expedition leader and captain, with more than 25 years as a marine captain and more than one million nautical miles logged at sea. He has worked the North Atlantic offshore, tidal and inland waters, fast-running rivers and frozen harbours and bays, navigating around icebergs and pack ice in all kinds of wind and weather. On land, he has travelled and worked across the remote back country of Newfoundland and Labrador, Northern British Columbia, the Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Alaska. His flight time spans fixed-wing aircraft, floatplanes and helicopters.
Cory holds certificates in search and rescue, first aid, firefighting, MED, SVOP, STCW 95, CSTS, WHMIS, OSSA, DSC-MC radio operation and survival instruction. He brings 20 years as an emergency management planner for land-based and marine operations and logistics, and 25 years as a tourism development specialist. He has designed training for life-threatening and non-life-threatening emergencies, from the first response through the long-term aftermath, and has been invited to deliver emergency and survival training by public authorities, the Canadian Coast Guard, search and rescue organizations, First Nations and Inuit organizations and the Red Cross, among others.
Newfoundland is home. His grandparents kept the Greenspond Puffin Island Lighthouse in Bonavista Bay, the same bay as RedHawk’s proposed home base on Gooseberry Island, and his late father, Jim Burry, served 24 years with the Canadian Coast Guard.
Cory is also the Founder, President and CEO of Canadian Adventure Charters (CAC) Inc. and Continental Climate Construction Inc. (CCC). At RedHawk, he leads with one purpose: to prepare people to lead, respond and sustain themselves in some of the most demanding conditions on earth.
